Sketching on the Pont des Arts
"Sketching on the Pont des Arts " oil on linen 16x20

“Sketching on the Pont des Arts” depicts a young girl drawing amidst the crowds on one of the many bridges in Paris, France. I traveled there this last fall…such a majestic city of great dignity and grandeur…full of intrigue, mystery, and mystic.
Sine scientia ars nihil est.

Apples, Pears, and Oranges
"Apples, Pears, and Oranges " oil on linen 16x20

I love this painting for the light that I captured, and the dynamically executed brushwork. This painting was painted during the winter months, exclusively from life. It was such an exciting time. My subjects were perfectly behaved and made quite the delicious fruit salad upon completion of the piece.

Afternoon Read
"Afternoon Read " oil on linen 18x24

“Afternoon Read” is a painting of my friend Triona. She often visits my studio and reads as I work. I couldn’t resist painting her…I was after a dynamic design and capturing the effects of all the different textures in her hair, the couch, and that beautiful red sweater…How Exquisite!

Venetian Canal
"Venetian Canal " oil on linen 16x12

Venice has a wonderful luring mystery surrounding it. I felt entranced by its beauty and found myself sketching all along the canals. My favorite places were those tucked away off the beaten path and my favorite times were those in the early morning hours when the streets were silent and sparse. It was at these times when I most felt I could step back in history and imagine Venice at the height of its empire, and when I could imagine walking in the steps of Sargent, vivaciously painting his Venice.

A Menuet
"A Menuet" oil on linen 8x12

Flowers are such a joy to paint. I love these intimate portraits because they capture the flowers character and grace. A menuet is a very old dance of French origin. It is derived from the French word menu (small) and refers to the steps of the dance. I named this painting “A Menuet” because of the geranium’s graceful movement and delicate lyrical notes of color.
